MontaVista Provides Embedded Linux Commercialization for New AMCC PowerPC 460EX and 460GT Processors

April 16, 2008 -- Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) and MontaVista Software, Inc. have announced that two new Linux support packages (LSPs) will make MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 5.0 available for developers using the AMCC PowerPC 460EX and 460GT processors. In addition to providing commercial-grade Linux to the engineers who are AMCC’s customers, the MontaVista LSPs will let engineers use the MontaVista DevRocket integrated development environment (IDE) to develop products for the new processors.

Based on the Power Architecture standard, the AMCC processors are suited for a wide range of high-performance applications, including imaging, industrial control, and networking, especially next-generation printer products with the PowerPC 460EX, and next-generation base station and networking systems with the PowerPC 460GT.

"Many of our customers develop their Power Architecture-based products with MontaVista Linux, so we have worked closely with MontaVista to ensure its support for the PowerPC 460EX and 460GT processors," said Charlie Ashton, Director of Enablement for AMCC. "We expect that the advantages of AMCC’s new Power Architecture processors together with MontaVista Linux value add will enable engineers to deliver innovative products to market quickly."
