China's SICMicro Selects MIPS Technologies' Processor IP for New Set-Top Box Chip

April 17, 2012 -- MIPS Technologies, Inc. announced that SICMicro selected MIPS32 processor cores for the new generation of its highly-secure decoder SOCs for China's ABS-S set-top box market. ABS-S is the direct-to-home (DTH) technology for satellite transmission in China, supporting broadcast, data distribution and interactive services.

Powered by dual MIPS32 4KEc cores, SICMicro's new SIC6008 decoder chip for broadcast satellite and terrestrial dual-mode set-top boxes integrates an advanced hardware module to ensure data security, as well as rich peripheral interfaces to support GPRS and other extensions.

"We are committed to providing our customers throughout China with the most comprehensive, reliable and secure solutions for satellite and terrestrial broadcasting," said Yidong Li, Vice President of Marketing and Sales, SICMicro. "After careful deliberation, we made the strategic business decision to select a MIPS processor as our application platform of choice for our advanced set-top box SOC."
