May 19, 2006 -- Mentor Graphics Corp. has announced availability of a new transient simulation product within its CHS electrical design software suite. Named Capital SimTransient, the new product utilizes industry-standard VHDL-AMS component models to simulate time domain effects such as wire melt and fuse blow. This enables harness cost and weight optimizations to be made in the design of electrical distribution systems in the transportation industry.
Capital SimTransient is available with CHS release 2006.1, which also delivers a range of enhancements to existing products. Examples of these enhancements include aesthetic and performance enhancements when automatically generating wiring diagrams, and additional web-based enterprise integration services.
Capital SimTransient augments the existing CHS Capital Analysis products, which deliver qualitative and quantitative simulation directly to the engineer's desktop. More sophisticated analyses such as functional verification, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and scenario scripting are also available.
Developed specially for the electrical domain, Capital Analysis products are fully integrated with the CHS design products, delivering dynamic context-sensitive feedback to engineers in order to validate and improve their designs at the earliest possible time. No specialist analysis skills are needed. Scalable models (often generated automatically) are created at a level of detail that suits the user, and the models can be enriched and propagated through the design process.
"Capital SimTransient is an important new product within the CHS range," says Nick Smith, product marketing director for Mentor's Integrated Electrical Systems Division. "CHS simulation and analysis products are intended for use by every electrical design engineer, not just analysis experts, in order to improve safety, quality and reliability throughout the design cycle. Transient simulation expands our analysis solutions, and we are very pleased with the results of pre-release trials of Capital SimTransient."
