January 3, 2008 --VeriSilicon Holdings Co., Ltd. (VeriSilicon) has announced the licensable VZ.AudioHD application platform to meet the high-performance audio needs required by the latest high definition multimedia devices. To support complex use-cases, the VZ.AudioHD platform includes a wide assortment of optimized high-end audio software modules, high-performance ZSP800 DSP processor, and system software solutions platform. For applications such as Blu-Ray/ HD-DVD players and broadcast HD TV, the result is a single processor and complete software solution that significantly lowers development time and risk while saving cost.
The VZ.AudioHD platform currently includes more than 15 ultra-efficient, pre-optimized software modules including Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS Digital Surround, and DTS-HD Hi-Res. According to VeriSilicon, the VZ.AudioHD platform requires on average 40% less MHz than solutions from other vendors, which significantly reduces power consumption of the system. As a result, the VZ.AudioHD platform only needs a single ZSP800 to implement all the required audio standards. The ZSP800 extends the ZSP product line of G1 and G2 processors from VeriSilicon and introduces the ZSP G3 processor family. The eight-stage ZSP800 processor can issue up to four 16/32-bit instructions per cycle across a data path that includes six ALUs and a Quad-MAC, and achieves around 450MHz using 65-nm process technology.
"We have been very happy with the ZSP G1 and G2 families of processor cores and have deployed them across a wide range of our set-top box and DVD product lines," said Dan Marotta, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Broadcom’s Broadband Communications Group. "As our audio product requirements have dramatically grown, so have our performance needs. After studying several other options, it was an easy decision to select ZSP800 for our next-generation products. The ZSP800 provides a high-performance solution that will allow us to address our increasing processing needs with one core. Another benefit is the ZSP800's software compatibility with previous ZSP architectures, which will allow us to reuse our existing code base without any modifications."
Availability
The VZ.AudioHD, comprising the ZSP800, audio software module suite, and system software, is currently available as a licensable platform from VeriSilicon or as a part of its ASIC services.
