May 10, 2010 -- Texas Instruments, Inc. (TI) has introduced the DaVinci DMVA2 video processor. Video surveillance and security customers can easily utilize integrated smart analytics that run on TI's first generation vision co-processor incorporated on the DMVA2 SOC. People counting, trip zone, intelligent motion detection, camera tamper detection and streaming metadata analytics are all possible while streaming up to 1080p. Compared to other multi-chip solutions, the integrated, single-chip DMVA2 SoC reduces BoM cost by one-third and board space by one-half, making video analytics possible in a broader range of surveillance applications.

Following the recently introduced DMVA1 video processor which supports up to 720p, the DMVA2 SOC offers three times the video performance over the DMVA1 video processor and is equipped with TI's Smart Codec Technology, which provides up to five times the bit-rate reduction for improved video quality and network bandwidth. Making video analytics a de facto feature on IP cameras and providing more design choices to security customers, the DMVA2 is the next device in TI's dedicated roadmap for IP camera applications. The DMVA2 video processor is also both pin- and software-compatible with TI's DMVA1, DM365 and DM368 DaVinci video processors. In addition to the DMVA2 chip itself, userss can accelerate their time-to-market with a complete IP camera reference design and free Linux IP camera application software with source code.

DMVA2 video security camera SOC features

  • ARM926EJ-STM core provides more than 40% host processor performance over DMVA1
  • Support for H.264 in high, main or base profiles 720p at 30 fps or 1080p 15 fps, plus secondary CIF stream
  • Multi-codec support (MPEG-4, MPEG-2 MJPEG and VC1)
  • Enables up to two megapixel IP camera designs
  • Allows for video stabilization, face detection, face recognition, noise filtering, auto white balance, auto focus, auto exposure and edge enhancement, as well as other video quality enhancements.
  • Enables image improvements and added intelligent video pre-processing

Availability and Pricing

The DMVA2 video security camera SOC will begin sampling in 2Q 2010 to early adopter video security customers. To evaluate the DMVA2 video security camera SOC today, designers can order TI's DMVA2IPNC-MT5 IP camera reference design which is open for order entry and is priced at $795.
