September 26, 2011 -- Fujitsu Semiconductor America has added 64 new high-performance and ultra-low-leak products to its FM3 family of 32-bit RISC microcontrollers (MCUs) based on the ARM Cortex-M3 processor core. The new 32-bit Fujitsu controllers include 54 products from the high-performance MB9B610/ 510/ 410/ 310/ 210/ 110 series, along with other selected MCUs. Also introduced are 10 ultra-low-leak devices, including the MB9A130 series and other products that deliver dramatically reduced power requirements and low cost.

High-performance MB9B610/ 410/ 310/ 110 series

The new MB9Bx10 high-performance series MCUs, which are designed for processor-intensive system controllers and communications-oriented systems, feature the industry's first two-channel Ethernet MAC support along with multiple CAN and USB interfaces. The devices integrate multiple inverter controls for highly precise, high-speed motor control along with support for other safety features including those that meet the IEEE1588 requirements for time-synched communication in an automated factory setting.

The devices, which operate at up to 144-MHz core clock speeds, support up to 1MByte of high-speed flash memory and up to 128kBytes of RAM. Various configurations support 1-channel or 2-channel Ethernet MAC, USB2.0 host/ slave functions, CAN, and up to 3-channel inverter control timers. The MCUs are available in LQFP176, LQFP144, and BGA192 packages.

With multiple communication interfaces, large memory and high performance, these high-performance MCUs are ideal for networked applications including industrial equipment, inverters, servo motors, and programmable controllers for home appliances, office equipment, and automated factory equipment.

Ultra-low-leak MB9A130 series MCUs

The new MB9A130 ultra-low-leak series MCUs are optimized for battery-powered applications and low-cost products. Incorporating power-gating technologies developed by Fujitsu, the devices offer low leakage and support for voltage ranges from 1.8V to 5.5V.

Six additional intelligent power-saving features — sleep mode, timer mode, RTC mode, stop mode, deep-standby RTC mode, and deep-standby stop mode — offer extended battery life and low-power performance. When using RTC mode under date and time management, the controller draws an extremely low 1.6µA of power. In deep-standby RTC mode, where power to the flash memory is shut off, the MCU draws just 1.2µA, among the lowest power requirements in the industry. Controllers in this group can operate up to 20-MHz core clock, and are available in 64-pin to 48-pin packages with 128kBytes to 64kBytes of flash memory and up to 8kBytes of RAM.

The ultra-low-leak devices offer an excellent design option for medical equipment, small appliances, home electronics products, utility meters, and digital entertainment systems.

About the FM3 family

Introduced in November 2010, the Fujitsu FM3 family combines an ARM Cortex-M3 core with Fujitsu's highly reliable and high-speed secure embedded flash technology, as well as ancillary functions developed for Fujitsu's proprietary family of FR microcontrollers. Featuring a host of robust peripherals, including multiple motor control timers, high-speed ADCs and a wide range of communication interfaces, the FM3 family of 16-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers is optimized for a variety of industrial and consumer applications.

The addition of 54 products to the High-Performance Group and 10 products to the Ultra-Low-Leak Group brings the FM3 family to a total of 160 products to suit every application. Fujitsu plans to continue expanding the line to reach 200 products by the end of FY 2011, and to more than 500 products by the end of FY 2012.

Availability and Pricing

The MB9BF618TPMC MCU in the High-Performance group is available now in sample quantities with small-volume pricing starting at $7.88 each. The MB9AF132LPMC in the Ultra-Low-Leak group is available now in sample quantities with small-volume pricing starting at $2.18 each.
