Arteris is a start-up company founded in 2003 by a group of semiconductor industry veterans. The company’s focus is on the next-generation of challenges associated with system on chip (SoC) design: on-chip communications, or network-on-chip (NoC). Arteris is developing patented technology to enable designers to efficiently connect and manage the on-chip traffic requirements among all the various elements required in today’s IP-laden SoC designs.
Arteris' technology represents an advancement over first-generation on-chip interconnect solutions such as multi-layered or pipelined bus based architectures. While compatible with these types of IP interfaces, Arteris’ solution looks at the chip communications requirements on a chip-wide level, essentially helping create a network for facilitating data transport on chip. This approach improves design productivity by facilitating rapid IP and design reuse. In addition, it addresses timing issues sooner and more effectively , reducing design costs. Arteris' NoC technology, delivered in the form of licenseable design tools and IP, also scales with new manufacturing processes and larger amounts of IP.
